It and an oncoming pickup truck then collided, state police said. The accident happened at 1:16 p.m. in Union Township, west of Union City. Troopers said Randall Meabon, 46, of Wattsburg, was driving a 1998 Dodge truck east on Route 97, pulling a 1999 Eby trailer. .

Police said the trailer hitch broke and the trailer fishtailed across the center line of the highway into the path of a westbound 1999 Dodge truck driven by Michele Avenali, 27, of Kane. Avenali was being treated in the Hamot Medical Center emergency room Thursday night.

Her passenger, identified by state police as Daniel Avenali, 30, of Kane, was released after treatment, a Hamot nursing supervisor said. Police said Meabon was not injured. All three motorists wore seat belts, police said. Eby Inc. makes livestock trailers.
